If you’re starting on Bathurst Campus at Charles Sturt University, here is a guide to all the amazing things you have to look forward to.
Services and Facilities
Bathurst campus has amazing sports facilities including a gym, basketball courts, netball courts, ovals, and indoor courts.
The library is open 24/7 with many books to borrow, study rooms available, awesome librarians, and a café on weekdays.
There is a mini grocery store called Charlie’s with food, uniforms for your course, university merch, stationary, a post office, and more.
There are many other incredible food options as well with Pulse café, Rafters bar, and the newly renovated Food Bowl.
Health and Support
Looking after your physical and mental health while at university is extremely important.
There are many counselling options with a 24/7 student wellbeing call or text line, and counselling sessions offered in person, on the phone, or over zoom.
For help with student needs such as accommodation, there is a residence life office as well as an in-person student central desk in the library and online help as well.
There is an Ochre Health Clinic on campus as well as a dental and oral health clinic.
Accommodation
There are many accommodation options to choose from, each which suit different people’s needs through different facilities and prices.
The university also looks out for your safety on campus with 24/7 security, surveillance cameras, and residential leaders who can help with any troubles.
If there is ever a problem with your accommodation you can put in a maintenance request, talk to security, or even request a room change.
Best Study Spots
The campus has many incredible study spots which are useful to know before the busy assessment period begins.
The library has rooms which can be booked with large tables and whiteboards which are perfect for group study sessions.
There are also quiet zones in the library with singular desks if you prefer to work alone.
Outside the library, and across campus, there are also benches and tables if you would like some fresh air.
And of course, you can always study in the privacy of your dorm.
Socialising – Events and Clubs
There are many social events and clubs on campus which allow you to become more involved with the university and meet more people.
There are sports clubs such as netball, rugby league, rugby union, and football, as well as the sports council.
There are also non-sport clubs, such as social committees for each residence, Bathurst Christian Students, SRC, and more.
Many of these clubs organise social events all year round.
Things to do on weekends
Bathurst has many amazing options on your days off.
This can include going to some of the many awesome cafes, restaurants, or pubs.
If you’re into nature, there are some beautiful parks, a fernery, and Begonia house.
The university is situated right next to the Mount Panorama racetrack and you can either drive or walk around it to check out some amazing views.
Bathurst is also home to many museums, shops, gardens, and more. There is the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, the Rail Museum, the National Motor Racing Museum, and plenty more.
Bathurst is also only a 45-minute drive away from Orange, which can be the perfect day trip.
Or, for a weekend trip, the Blue Mountains are only a 1.5-hour drive away.
Jobs
The university offers many opportunities of employment, which can be found on the Careers and Skills Hub.
There are opportunities to work in the library, at the café or bar, with student central, in a leadership role as a residential leader, and more.
