Staying healthy as a uni student isn’t always easy. Between assignments, late-night study sessions and a packed schedule, it can feel like there’s no time to focus on your wellbeing.
But the Student Wellbeing Framework, launching in 2025, aims to change that by helping students prioritise their health and build habits that last a lifetime.
The Healthy Lifestyle priority within the framework is all about supporting students to live healthier, more balanced lives. While we’re still in the consultation stage, some key areas of focus include promoting physical activity, encouraging nutritious eating, and helping students make informed choices about alcohol and drugs through harm minimisation strategies.
The framework aims to make healthy living accessible for all students – whether you’re studying online, on campus, or juggling both. From offering programs that promote movement to ensuring healthy food options at uni events, it’s about meeting students where they’re at and providing simple, practical ways to stay healthy.
Why should you care about the framework?
Because it’s designed with us in mind.
As students, we’re often balancing a million things, and taking care of our health can feel like just another chore. But when you eat well, stay active and take time for yourself, everything gets a little easier- studying feels less stressful, you have more energy and even your mood improves.
This framework doesn’t just tell you what to do, it creates opportunities. Whether it’s joining a sports club, accessing fitness facilities, or learning about healthy habits, the benefits go far beyond your time at uni. It’s about setting you up for long-term success, both academically and personally.
Here’s the thing: this framework isn’t just a top-down initiative. It’s being shaped by students, for students. That means you have the chance to influence how it’s rolled out.
Getting involved could be as simple as joining a club, sharing your feedback or attending workshops. By taking part, you’re not only improving your own health but also contributing to a better experience for the entire Charles Sturt community.
Plus, being part of something that’s focused on wellbeing can help you build skills, meet new people and feel more connected to uni life. It’s a win-win.
As a member of the Student Wellbeing Working Group, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to this project. From offering feedback to suggesting ideas, like the slogan “Your Wellbeing, Our Priority,” it’s been exciting to see how much our voices as students are valued in shaping the framework.
This experience has shown me just how committed Charles Sturt is to creating a healthier, more supportive environment for all of us.
The Student Wellbeing Framework is about building a culture of health and balance that will have a real impact on how we live and learn. So, as we get closer to the launch, I encourage you to get involved – whether that’s by joining an activity, sharing your ideas, or just taking small steps toward a healthier you.
Together, we can make uni life not just about surviving but thriving.
