Choosing a laptop for university wasn’t a very hard decision for me being someone who owns only Apple products – I knew I wanted a MacBook!

But at the same time, I was having a look at PCs and then eventually chose the MacBook.

For students on a budget who may think MacBooks are expensive or might want to get a PC instead, I’ll be doing a comparison on both, and dropping down a guide on why I think MacBooks are worth the extra investment and where to find a good MacBook under $700…!

Why choose a MacBook?

Well, they are known for their sleek build making them portable to take with you anywhere and study on the go.

They also offer a long-lasting battery, and the MacBook overall tends to have a long-life span which means saving money over time!

And lastly, if you own an iPad for uni, you can share your work straight to the MacBook!

Affording a MacBook on a budget is one thing you should keep in mind as they tend to be expensive.

The best places to look are Facebook marketplace, Reebelo, or if you want to buy one outright brand new UNiDAYS offers a student discount at all Apple stores. Click here for info on all student discounts!

From my personal experience, I bought a 2018 Touch Bar MacBook off the marketplace, and it is still in perfect condition, working fast, and perfect for me to take to a café and have a study session.

I’ve had it for 2 and a half years and bought it for $800!

Why choose PC?

A PC fits into a student budget; they also offer better compatibility with a broader range of software, which is important for students in engineering or for students who enjoy gaming.

The PC can provide an overall better performance for high-end graphics.

So, there you have it the differences between MacBooks and PCs.

Overall, both the MacBook and PC have their strengths for all students, depending on what you study.
