Joining the Charles Sturt University Football Club in Bathurst has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at Charles Sturt University. What started as a casual interest in playing a new sport socially quickly turned into something much more meaningful.

From making lifelong friendships to celebrating victories, this club has given me so many amazing memories. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed supporting all the Stags (men’s teams) and the Vixens (women’s teams) in the club at all of their games.
When I first joined, I have to admit, very few of us actually knew how to play soccer. But despite our lack of experience or foot coordination, the club was incredibly supportive and welcoming. There were 2 fourth grade women’s teams last year (the Red Vixens and the White Vixens) due to the high number of new players.

Our team quickly bonded over our shared desire to improve, and with the help of our fantastic coaches, Ashley and Emily, we gradually increased our skills. Every training session brought new challenges, but also new breakthroughs. We were determined to learn, and that determination paid off when we played and won the 2024 Grand Final.

Beyond the field, the fun didn’t stop. We’d join other members of CSUFC at the club’s social events, including the weekly dinners and social drinks at Jack Duggan’s Irish Pub. The social events were a highlight of the experience. These events created a strong sense of community, where we could unwind, share laughs, and continue building friendships off the pitch.

In August, we hosted our annual Headspace Cup charity match weekend. A time of the year when players and members of CSUFC paint Proctor Park green and raise much needed funds for mental health. And Charles Sturt Football Club walked away with the victory after a 7 year drought!
We then came around to September (finals time). Both fourth grade women’s teams made it to the Grand final and we played the very first Vixens derby grand final (definitely one for the history books). Where our captain, Julia Hardy, scored the winning goal and we (The Red Vixens) walked away with a 1 – 0 victory.

Winning the Grand Final in 2024 was an unforgettable moment. It was the culmination of our hard work, teamwork, and growth as individuals and as a team. I’m proud to have been part of a group that supported each other both on and off the field. The friendships I’ve made, the skills I’ve developed, and the memories I’ve created will stay with me for years to come.

If you’re looking for a sporting club where you can grow, have fun, and make great friends, then Charles Sturt University Football Club Bathurst is the club to join.
Go Stags! Go Vixens!
