My Go-To Uni Snacks

Summary:

Is your stomach making loud whale noises in the library? Thankfully, having a good snack on hand can make all the difference! In this blog, Remi shares her favourite snacks to keep her fuelled throughout those busy uni days.

Well, the time is here. I am heading back to campus for my last semester of the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy after a year on placement. That means I need snacks, and lots of them!

On a serious note, it’s important to take snacks to uni to make sure we fuel our brains, learn effectively, and power through juggling life, assessments, classes and the multitude of other things going on in our lives. So I thought I could find some healthy-ish snack ideas and inspire you to do your groceries, save some money, and be prepared!

Snack ideas:

  • Protein bar: I wholeheartedly believe everyone needs to have a protein bar in their bag. When you feel your stomach starting to rumble and realise you have no food, a protein bar can save the day. I have recently been loving the Noshu Protein Plus range!
  • Hummus and carrot sticks: A simple but effective idea, I must admit. How handy are these individually portioned containers of hummus? They’re literally the definition of grab-and-go. You could also buy some baby carrots, but I like to buy a normal carrot and chop it into sticks myself.
  • Fruit salad: Kind of basic, but it gets the job done. I will make a rather large batch on Sunday (remember the lemon juice to stop the fruit from browning) and I can scoop it into containers as my partner and I need them. Also, buy fruit when it’s on special and in season to make it a cheaper alternative to buying prepackaged fruit!
  • Yoghurt and muesli: Again… the grab-and-go items are key! Look at how handy the Bulla Goodness yoghurt is! I do find the taste a little sour, so I add some honey at uni.
  • Packet snacks: Popcorn, pretzels, Shapes, and chippies are perfect snacks to pop into your bag.

I think you can tell that I like grab-and-go snacks that require minimal effort. Uni is hard enough as it is and having to think about snacks can add unnecessary stress, so I hope these ideas give you inspiration for what to bring with you! Remember that the campus has fridges as well for you to store your goodies! No warm yoghurt here!
