It’s the time of year when money is being spent, life is busy, and you have endless amounts of things to do before that one big day, Christmas.
As a uni student, these things shouldn’t stop you from hosting a Christmas gathering with your friends or bringing a plate to a family event.
Here are some simple, tasty, lower-cost recipes that’ll still let you contribute to Christmas. And nothing beats something that is homemade.’
Bruschetta

This is such a simple yet delicious meal, perfect for sharing.
- Slice the baguette into wheels
- Dice tomatoes, red onion, parsley, and garlic, and mix in a bowl
- Toast baguette wheels in the oven till golden
- Top with tomato mixture
- Drizzle with balsamic glaze.
Orange and poppyseed loaf

This recipe is one of my favourites, and everyone who I make it for absolutely loves it. It is so simple, it is made in one bowl with little mess, and tastes delicious. It is perfect as a loaf, but you can even turn it into muffins. Check out the recipe I use: Orange and poppyseed cake.
Focaccia

Focaccia may seem daunting due to the time required to make it, but honestly, most of that is just the time the dough needs to rest. There are so many different recipes out there. One I love is Easy Focaccia Bread.
Focaccia can be so versatile, different ingredients that work well as toppings include:
- Olives
- Garlic
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Herbs
- Feta Cheese
- Baby Spinach
- Eggplant
Rice Paper Rolls
These are so versatile that you can put whatever you like in them. Here is a recipe from recipetineats of Vietnamese-Style rice paper rolls.
Some other fillings I like to use include:
- Honey lemon chicken
- Honey soy chicken
- Marinated tofu
- Tuna
- Capsicum
- Carrot
- Cucumber
Truffles
I remember making these for the first time in Year 8 food tech. Such a simple yet morish dessert that everyone will love. I used the truffle recipe from Taste.
Merry Christmas, and happy cooking!
