Shining a Spotlight on Rural Health Positive Student Club

Summary:

Shristi shares what makes Rural Health Positive (Rh+) such a great club for Charles Sturt health students. With members from all campuses and online, Rh+ brings students together to support rural and remote healthcare. From placement help and training to volunteering and outreach, it’s all about learning, connecting, and making a real impact in the community.

Rural Health Positive (Rh+) is a dynamic and passionate student club making waves in rural and remote health. We are more than just a social club; we are a unique network connecting health students across the Three Rivers.

Rh+ has incredible diversity from the bustling campuses of Port Macquarie, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Wagga Wagga, Albury, and the dedicated online students. This interdisciplinary richness fosters a practical understanding of the holistic approach within rural and remote communities.

The connection does not stop there. Rh+ works closely with the Three Rivers Department of Rural Health (TRDRH). These connections strengthen our mission of advocating for rural and remote health workforce issues among students and the local community and raising awareness of the available tertiary education opportunities.

Now, you must be wondering what this mission looks like in action:

  • Financial assistance to rural health-dedicated students for placements, networking opportunities, and training programs.
  • Hands-on interdisciplinary networking opportunities amongst students from different disciplines, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
  • Gaining specific skills and cultural awareness to thrive as future healthcare professionals in rural and remote settings, alongside a strong commitment to Indigenous cultural awareness and safety.
  • Volunteering opportunities to directly engage with rural and remote communities and raise awareness of tertiary education.

Rh+ is deeply committed to nurturing rural and remote health well and truly beyond its members. We have outreach programs that engage with the current youth of rural and remote communities through high school visits. In addition, we have an emerging Indigenous cultural event that aids in building bridges and inspires future healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Are you ready to be part of this impactful movement?
