One of my favourite things about studying a degree at the Port Macquarie campus is how central it is to surrounding areas. My all-time favourite thing to do is a day trip. Perfect for the weekend, when you need a distraction from uni, or when you have the day off from work. It’s a great way to explore with new friends, or take yourself on a little adventure someplace new.
There are so many beautiful places around Port Macquarie, I’m going to let you know where they are, and some awesome things they offer.
Hat head – located 55 minutes from port campus
I’ve only recently discovered hat head, let me just say it is BEAUTIFUL.
Korogoro walking track is a stunning walk that overlooks the river and the ocean, if you’re lucky on your walk you might discover a cool gap in the rocks that has water flowing through! I would recommend enclosed shoes. If a walk is not your seen the beaches are beautiful.
Bellingen – located 1hr 35 minutes from port campus
Although this drive is a bit further it is 100% worth it. The main strip of shops is so unique! One must is visiting the promised lands, it is stunning. If you go nice and early, you’ll have it all to yourself. The community Bellingen markets are held the third Saturday of every month and are great!
If you’re heading out to Bellingen, another must stop is Dangar falls. Only a 40-minute drive from Bellingen. The waterfall is so pretty and is perfect for swimming.
Harrington/Crowdy head – located 55 minutes from port campus
Take a nice walk on the break wall, visit the lighthouse, and have a dip in the ocean! Stop in at IGA and grab some lunch.
Crescent head – located 55 minutes from port campus
The beaches are stunning. You can walk from race course head trail and follow the track along the beach for a nice view! Definitely check out the bakery whilst you’re there.
If you’re up for some activities the Mini golf at crescent head country club has recently been renovated and is really fun. Crescent is great for surfing, snorkelling, swimming, and just chilling at the beach
Camden head – located 36 minutes from port campus
Check out the walk at perpendicular point, it has such an amazing view, then stop at Pilots beach for a swim. If you are up for a hike, walk up north brother – this walk is harder and usually takes 2-4 hours return, but worth the view.
Forster – located 1hour 14 minutes from port campus
Plenty of beautiful beaches, cafe’s and a nice main strip of shops.
South West Rocks – located 57 minutes from port campus
Take a visit to trial bay gaol (student price offered), smokey cape lighthouse, have a look at the surf shops, and enjoy plenty of beaches! A great spot for fishing too! You’ll definitely spot a kangaroo or two!
I hope you enjoy these places as much as I do!
