From a young age, playing sports has been something we actively did, but mostly because either our school, parents or friends wanted us to.
However, as we grew up, other things have taken priority and we’ve moved on from physical activity. Ain’t nobody got time to run around when you have a job and full-time study to do! But we forget the great benefits that sports and physical activity have on our body and mind.
Why should you get into sports as an adult?
As adults, we’re studying, working and trying to have a social life, so finding the time to play a sport may seem like too much effort or even impossible! However, most sports only have two training days a week which range between 1-2.5 hours in the afternoon and a game on the weekend. This means there is always time to fit things around your schedule.
With two different sport seasons, there are so many options to choose from! And different sports use and aid different components of the body:
What can sports do for your body?
- Stronger bones
- Healthy heart
- Controls diabetes
- Lower blood pressure
- Balance cholesterol
- Improve circulation
- Strengthen immunity
What can sports do for your mind?
- Boost positive attitude
- Improve self-esteem
- Help with discipline and respect
- Improve communication and teamwork
- Increase mental calmness
- Reduce stress
As adults we get so clouded with work and study that most of us don’t move around as much as we used to, and instead focus on things that make us stressed and neglect giving ourselves a break. So, it’s time to leave the desk, stop procrastinating and take up a sport to treat yourself to a healthy and balanced lifestyle!
- Make new friends by taking up a team sport and improve your overall wellbeing
- Take time for yourself with a sport you love! It’ll be a healthy distraction from study and leave you with a clearer, happier mind
- You’ll also feel proud and accomplished by getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new
It’s easy to get into sports as an adult, all you have to do is stop thinking about it and just do it!
