SSAF spotlight: CSU in Port Macquarie

Throughout 2016, we saw the growth of CSU in Port Macquarie including two new on-campus recreation facilities. SSAF made these upgrades possible by providing the funding for an indoor and outdoor recreation area. SSAF funds were also used to create a $1 weekly student lunch on Wednesdays.

The indoor recreation area is filled with bean bags, a ping-pong table, pool table, discussion walls, group study areas, and a 60” LCD TV with gaming consoles (Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 64, and a PlayStation 4).

The area is now used as a study break hangout spot, and enables students to host various fundraising events including the first Ping-pong-athon, FIFA competitions, and movie nights.

The outdoor area hosts a half-basketball court, handball courts, a BBQ area, grass area, and picnic tables. Although still in the improvement stage, the area will continue to grow as further campus upgrades continue.

The outdoor area is a great addition to the Port Macquarie campus, and has encouraged countless students to get outdoors on their study breaks, while also providing a great spot to hold the $1 Wednesday lunches.

Port Macquarie is an active community that strongly supports physical exercise, which is why SSAF funding also donated to the following in 2016:

  • A local soccer club – the Port Macquarie Saints
  • The purchase of brand new equipment such as a PA system (for presentations and performances)
  • The purchase of sporting equipment for on campus activities (e.g. – a portable tennis net).
