Conferral Dates Explained

Summary:

When will I graduate? This is a common question that Charles Sturt students ask after they’ve received their final grades. The answer is that you will graduate on your conferral date! So… what is a conferral date? Mikayla has been there and done that and shares all the information you need!

As a current graduating Charles Sturt student, the communications team recently asked me, ‘what is your conferral date?’.

I didn’t even know the answer. What the hell is a conferral date?!

After some research, I realised that a conferral date is the official day you graduate from university and become a Charles Sturt alumni (not to be confused with your graduation ceremony, which is a chance to dress up and celebrate all your hard work).

After you hand in your final assignment and wait for your final grades, you’re probably going to wonder: ‘now what?!’. What you do is celebrate your uni journey with family and friends and take some down-time.

Or if you’re like me, you might be scrolling the internet trying to find the perfect graduation outfit.

Either way, you deserve to treat yourself.

Going out for brunch to celebrate finishing uni!

In the meantime, you’ll receive some emails leading up to your graduation.

The first will be different depending on if you’ve completed all the requirements to graduate (that’s right – your grades aren’t the only thing that need to be sorted for your award to be conferred!), or if you’re all set.

If you still need to tick something off before you’re good to go, you’ll be directed to the Student Portal or GPS to find out what you need to do.

Things that might be holding you up:

  • You might have fees on your student account.
  • You might not have completed (or passed) your Child Safety Module or Academic Integrity Subject.
  • You might not have provided your USI (Unique Student Identifier), or if you have, it may not have verified successfully.

Once you’ve sorted out everything that needs sorting – Congratulations! – you’re eligible to graduate!

The next email you’ll receive will tell you details about when you’ll receive your documents and when you’ll receive information about graduation ceremonies. So, make sure your details are up to date in the Student Portal. This email also contains information on how you can download your digital transcript on My eQuals, which you can give to your employer before your conferral date.

So, once you’ve made it to the list of students who are eligible to graduate, the list gets sent off to the Chancellor to approve graduation on the next conferral date.

Your conferral date is the official day you can access your digital testamur and AHEGS via My Equals. Information about this is in the email so don’t stress!

Now, you wait for your conferral date and officially graduate!

And just like that, you are no longer a student but a Charles Sturt alumni. For more information on conferral dates, click here.
