Choosing where to study (whether that be after school or later in life) can be super overwhelming. There are so many things to consider, including course options, location, cost, lifestyle, and whether you can picture yourself living there for the length of your degree. I remember spending so much time making pros and cons lists, comparing universities and overthinking every decision.
After reflecting on all these factors, I decided to study at Charles Sturt University’s Port Macquarie Campus.
One of the biggest reasons I chose Charles Sturt was because I wanted the opportunity to move away from home and experience university life while staying relatively close to my family. Charles Sturt has multiple campuses across NSW from Port Macquarie in the north right down to Albury on the Victorian border, which makes university more accessible for students wanting different experiences, whether that be staying close to home or moving somewhere different.
Another factor that really stood out to me was the wide range of allied health courses available at Charles Sturt. I wanted to study in an environment surrounded by like-minded people.
The location of Port Macquarie played a huge role in my decision-making, as I grew up in a small coastal town and really enjoyed that lifestyle – and who doesn’t like breaking up your day with a swim at the beach?
Charles Sturt Advantage provided me with early entry into my Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree. I received my offer in May of Year 12. This made me feel less pressured when completing my HSC, as I had secured a place at university. It allowed me to enjoy my last year of school, and not having the pressure of getting into university allowed me to perform better.
Looking back, I am glad I chose Charles Sturt. I have made some amazing friendships with like-minded people, grown in so many ways, and am studying a course I am passionate about. Charles Sturt has offered a variety of support along the way and has made this experience a great one.
