How to beat the winter blues

With the recent cold weather, it’s easy to dream about summer – warm days at the beach or picnics under the sun. And spending extra time indoors to keep out of the cold certainly doesn’t help. But don’t worry, here’s how to beat the winter blues before the weather warms up again.

Decorate your room 

Now is the perfect time to give your room a makeover, but that doesn’t have to mean dramatic changes. A few simple adjustments can make all the difference. Why not paint the walls, hang up some artwork, or rearrange the furniture? These are easy ways to update your room without breaking the bank.

Find an indoor hobby

Because you spend more time indoors to escape from the winter chill, a great way to pass the time is to take up a new hobby. This will keep you occupied and you’ll be left feeling productive rather than just binge watching Netflix (as tempting as that is…).

Eat healthily 

While eating foods high in fat and sugar are tempting and comforting, you won’t be left feeling your best afterwards. A healthy diet will boost your mood and give you more energy and prevent you from putting on weight. Try complex carbohydrates such as broccoli and lentils which take longer to digest, disallowing sudden blood sugar spikes which can imbalance your mood.

Get cozy 

Rather than resisting winter, change your mindset to embrace it. This will help you enjoy the colder weather and make the most out of your days. Enjoy staying at home and invite your friends and family over to spend some quality time together.

Plan ahead 

There’s no better time than now to plan something exciting to look forward to. Start organising that summer holiday or even lunch with friends. This will help you keep your mind off winter and focus on the good times ahead.

Go outside 

While it is extremely tempting to stay indoors, getting outside is important for both your physical and mental wellbeing. It doesn’t have to be exercise though – it can be as simple as running an errand or visiting a friend. You will feel much better afterwards!
