Summer holidays are here and you have numerous activities planned and top destinations to visit. Whilst you should relax and make the most of the uni break, these holidays are also a great opportunity to learn a new skill or find employment. You’ll improve your abilities and even add a couple of skills to your resume!
Learn a new language
I don’t know about you but I’ve always wanted to tick this off my bucket list. It would be amazing to visit a foreign country and speak the local language. Not only is learning a new language useful if you want to travel, becoming multilingual is also beneficial to your career. Being multilingual demonstrates to future employers that you are open to diversity and have the intelligence to understand language and communicate effectively. If you have plans to work overseas, knowing the language of that culture will also give you that competitive edge over other candidates.
Seek employment
With so much time off, there’s no better opportunity to find casual work. As it’s leading up to Christmas, many businesses are hiring to prepare for the Christmas rush. You can make several hundred dollars a week that you can either save or spend! Be sure to check your local paper, job sites such as Seek.com.au or even ask family and friends if they know of anyone hiring.
Intern
Taking up an internship during the summer break is a great idea as they provide an invaluable learning experience. You’ll get the chance to experience your future career and really begin to recognise your strengths and weaknesses. Do some researching to see where you can intern these holidays.
