Not sure if you have the skills? Don’t worry! You learn as you go like I did!
I have been on the Orange Student Representative Committee (OSRC) now for 2 years and in that time, I have held the roles of Vice President (2024) and President (2025). During my two year term, I have gained many valuable leadership skills such as management of the OSRC team as well as managing and coordinating social events such as our annual Frocktail and Buck Wild Bush Bash bar nights, and the annual student ball.

I have also had the pleasure of hosting and coordinating student and staff BBQs to boost the connections between the staff and students.

I have also had the privilege of attending leadership workshops at the annual SRC symposium, held at the Port Macquarie campus in 2023 and the Wagga Wagga campus in 2024, where I got to network with the other SRC’s of Charles Sturt Universities as well the management team such as the other campuses Student Representation and Connections Officers.
Another incredible opportunity I got was to liaise with the Vice Chancellor and the university staff to advocate for Orange students and their ideas for the Orange campus. Which has led to the development of conflict resolution skills and empowering my peers to speak up and make changes in the interest of the students. I also got to attend various meetings, such as the Student Senate and the “all SRC” meetings, which is a great place to escalate OSRC concerns, as they manage all of Charles Sturt’s SRC’s.

So, what did I gain being on the OSRC? Self-development! My ability to tackle tasks evolved as I grew as a leader which then bled into my degree, making my grades better and my relationships with my peers stronger. I found I was able to better articulate my thoughts to my lecturers and my peers and strengthen my voice for change within the campus and my degree.
This is YOUR moment! The SRC isn’t just some committee – we’re the powerhouse that amplifies YOUR voice and transforms your university experience! Sure, uni life flies by in a flash, but that’s exactly why we’re here to make every single moment count. We’re turning ordinary campus days into unforgettable adventures, creating opportunities that’ll blow your mind, and delivering experiences that actually matter to YOU! This isn’t about us – it’s about unleashing the full potential of YOUR university journey. Ready to dive in?
