I had thought that once I finished Year 12, I would move away from home and attend university. But when it came time to rank universities for entry offers, I really had to sit down and think about whether I would want to move away from the slice of heaven that is Port Macquarie.

I was born and raised in Port Macquarie and having a university set in a regional coastal area provides so many benefits to university life. I remember in school, all of the high schools around our area attended Open Day, where we got to explore the campus, choose and listen to lectures regarding bachelor’s degrees and ask questions to current university students.
One of the students told me they enjoyed the Charles Sturt environment due to its smaller cohorts that facilitated a close-knit community with your peers and access to support from lecturers. When making my decision, this conversation remained in the back of my head, influencing my decision. I can confirm that after three and a half years being at Charles Sturt, his advice was true.
So, when the offers started to come out, I decided to accept the offer from Charles Sturt in Port Macquarie, and it was the best decision I’ve made.

So let me tell you a few of the reasons you should choose Charles Sturt if you’re undecided:
- SUPPORT! Charles Sturt really prides itself on providing support to students, whether that’s through the no questions asked 7-day automatic extension or the 24/7 wellbeing support line. Charles Sturt wants us to be supported in our academic journeys. - Rural/regional campuses. All of Charles Sturt’s campuses are in regional/rural areas, helping bring tertiary education outside of major cities!
- Access to mentoring programs that help you navigate university life as a new Charles Sturt student!

Not to mention the campus life: booking study rooms in the library with friends, nice outdoor sitting areas to enjoy lunch before class or even joining a club! There are endless opportunities to make university at Charles Sturt the best years of your life.
