So, the first step is done; you’ve made it to your mid-year break! Firstly, let me just say a MASSIVE congratulations – whether it was your first semester or your millionth, and whether there were tears threaded through the tough weeks, you’re here now!
If you’re like me then I can guarantee you started a list of ‘things to get done’ way back in your first week. The odds are that these aren’t your priorities now and that is completely okay. I find the mid-year break can be bittersweet, I mean you’ve worked so incredibly hard to get here but now that you’re free you feel slightly lost. There is typically a huge wind down period and this can be overwhelming.

Now, in the interest of keeping it light, I want to give some good suggestions on how you can have a valuable mid-year break.
- Eat, Eat, Eat!
Personally, I have already started my break, my going to two funky dinner venues I was dying to try, and I’ve never felt so satisfied to go somewhere new. Why not make a list of all the bakeries/restaurants/cafes that have a niche?

As a Perth gal, I’m less than helpful for what to get up to in NSW, BUT I can recommend using the brilliant ‘Trip Advisor’ and also this cool site ‘Design my Night’. Additionally, not that I want to condone it, but TikTok is where I find the majority of the coolest places to eat, so start making a list (p.s. don’t forget to check Uni Days for cheeky discounts)!
- Activities
By activities, I mean trying something new like…
- Bowling
- Mini-golf
- Paintball
- Sky-diving (why not?)

- Travel and Explore
You’ve got a few weeks, so go see some place! I honestly recommend trying to see as much of our beautiful country as you can.

Pack some snacks and go for a hike or go on a road trip and see where it takes you. Remember, nature is free to enjoy.
- Focus on YOU.
Guess what? The person who made it through to the mid-year is YOU. That means it’s time to nourish yourself again and ensure you’re fulfilling all the areas of your life. If you’re needing to spend time with friends, make it happen.

If you’ve dropped exercising, bring it back! If it’s time for you to give yourself some much-needed love after the first half of the year, get some yoga and meditation happening. Regardless of what it is, show your mind and body that you’re rewarding it for where it’s gotten you so far.
All in all, keep smashing it. Be sure to enjoy your break, however you do this, and allow yourself time to recuperate from a big start to the year. Congratulations, and rest up!
