CSU Student Senate supports equality

Statement from the Student Senate:

CSU’s Student Senate, which comprises representatives from each campus’s SRC, have over the past few months canvassed the views of each SRC regarding marriage equality. Given the returned majority view in support of CSU’s LGBTQI+ community to be treated equally and fairly under the law, we the Student Senate would like to offer our message of unity, equality, compassion and care to ALL students, staff and community members throughout Australia and the world.

We would like to thank and acknowledge work being done throughout CSU to provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment to all students, regardless of those differences that make us the humans we are. As representatives of students from different geographical and cultural backgrounds, we understand that along with promoting equality we are awarded the responsibility of answering to differing views, to this we stand proudly with the fact that we allow, encourage and promote respectful conversations always.

As always, we thank our students and staff for their continued contribution to making CSU an amazing place to work and study. If you feel distressed during the same-sex marriage debate, please contact a student counsellor, Employee Assistance Program (for staff) or an ALLY representative.

For more information about CSU’s institutional position on marriage equality, read the Vice-Chancellor’s statement.
