There’s been no shortage of podium finishes for CSU students and alumni at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, with track cyclist Kaarle McCulloch claiming four medals from four events, while CSU Pro Chancellor and alumnus Kurt Fearnley OAM claimed silver in last night’s T54 1500m event.
Kaarle set the wheels in motion for a successful Commonwealth Games campaign with gold on the opening night in the team sprint.
She backed up that golden performance with a bronze in the individual sprint event, gold in the 500m time trial and finally silver in the keirin.
Meanwhile, Kurt powered through the T54 1500m event last night in a time of 3:11.92, just a fraction of a second behind Canada’s Alexandre Dupont.
The determined athlete is already focusing his attention on Sunday’s marathon, where he will be hoping to go one better.
Meanwhile, CSU student Karri McMahon has been taking to the field in the women’s hockey, which has already posted wins in the pool rounds against Scotland, Canada and Ghana, and a draw with New Zealand. The Hockeyroos are aiming for gold, with their major threats coming from England and New Zealand.
CSU alumni Alicia Quirk is in the Australian Rugby 7s team, with the pool rounds kicking off on Friday.
Current CSU student Sarah Roy will also have her time to shine on Saturday, for the cycling road race.
