You’ve made it through the first session of the year. Hooray! But whether you‘re a first or third year student, it’s always hard to get back into the swing of things after a few weeks of holidays.
No matter how dedicated to your studies, it’s hard to stay on top of your workload. To get you through Session 2 and onto the summer break, here are some motivational tips to establish good study habits to limit your stress and get ahead while you can!
Plan
The only way you’ll feel confident that you’re getting somewhere with your studies, is by looking at the big picture. I’m not talking three years’ time (because us uni students like to live in the moment), rather planning for the rest of the session. Knowing where you need to be each week, what you’re learning and what’s coming up gives you direction and breaks up your workload.
Revise
The only way to stay on top of your studies is by revising what you’ve learnt. If you have mid-session or end-of-session exams, start revising early and your efforts will show in your results. You’ll also avoid cramming and sleepless nights the week beforehand!
Small amounts
Pace yourself and do small study sessions throughout the day with plenty of breaks. There’s no point overloading your brain when you’re tired because you won’t be able to absorb the info anyway.
Have a break
Don’t forget you need time to recharge, so have a rest day and do something for yourself. Studying 24/7 might make you feel like you’re working hard, but might not offer much benefit, as you could end up running yourself into the ground. So watch a movie, do some exercise or catch up with some friends.
Don’t be too hard on yourself (everyone falls behind), and just remember you’ll get there in the end!
