Charles Sturt University (CSU) is offering you the chance to fast track your degree by studying a subject over the summer break.
Studying over the summer break gives you the flexibility to lighten your subject load during the year and keep ahead of your studies, giving you more time and freedom during the year.
The Fast Track program gives students the option to catch up on subjects so you can graduate on time, get ahead of your studies, or develop professional skills in a particular area.
The subjects offered for the January intake are run out of the School of Biomedical Sciences, which involves blended and online teaching modes from the Orange Campus. These intensive single study subjects will be run over a 9 week period.
The subjects include:
Introduction to Microbiology (MCR101)
This is a first-year subject introducing the importance of micro-organisms in the environment. The subject cover topics such as the effect of microbes on human health, the environment, agriculture and more. You’ll attend a four-day compulsory residential school which will allow you to engage in a practical learning environment. You’ll also participate in laboratory sessions covering a variety of topics, and learn how to combine theory and practice.
Pathophysiology and Pharmacology 1 (BMS291)
This is a second-year subject which will explore the pathophysiological processes contributing to disease. You’ll learn about the processes involved with musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory dysfunction.
Human Bioscience (BMS192)
This is a first-year subject about the bodily systems such as the respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems. Learning will be enhanced through a compulsory three day residential school at Orange campus to present the scientific concepts covered throughout the subject. The pre requisite for this subject is BMS191.
Bachelor of Nursing student Vanessa studied a single subject during the 2015/16 summer semester and recommends the program for those who want to get ahead of their studies.
“CSU was my first and only choice for university. As a second year Bachelor of Nursing student I took Human Bioscience 2 in summer semester 2015/16. The weekly tutorials and supportive lecturer were great, and passing the subject was certainly a highlight for me,” she said.
“I found the summer semester to have less distractions and I would recommend it to other students.”
Joanne is also a CSU nursing student.
“The summer semester subjects are a great way to catch up if you find yourself falling behind. I took Human Bioscience in summer 2015/16 after not passing the subject in the previous semester.
The content was easier to comprehend and the subject is taught by people in the nursing field,” Joanne said.
“Becoming a Registered Nurse has always been a dream of mine, and it’s slowly becoming a reality, thanks to CSU.”
The program is offered to current students, new students and even students attending a different institution. Places are limited and applications close on 30 November 2016.
The Fast Track program commences on 2 January 2017.
