Final Year Speech Pathology Student Showcase

Final year Speech Pathology students at CSU Albury-Wodonga are gearing up for a busy week, with a student run workshop to be held on Wednesday 7 October and the annual 4th Year Speech Pathology Conference taking place from Thursday 8 – Friday 9 October.

The student run workshop on Wednesday 7 October aims to inform community members about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The workshop has been organised by four students as part of their final university assignment, and Speech Pathology student Zoe Brush said they hoped the workshop will be of benefit to the wider community.

“We want to inform community members in the Albury-Wodonga region about the NDIS, what it is, how it works, where to go for help, identifying needs and the importance of advocacy,” said Zoe.

The NDIS is a Federal Government initiative, launched in 2013. It is currently being trialled in various regions across Australia and will soon be coming to the Albury-Wodonga region.

Following the workshop, the annual 4th Year Speech Pathology Conference will be held over two days, providing insights from students on topics including the NDIS, Health Literacy, Mental Health, Dementia, Cognitive Function and Trauma Informed Care. The Conference will also feature guest speaker Cathy Olsen, who works as a liaison for Speech Pathology Australia and the NDIS. Presentations will be varied, with information relevant to all Allied Health professionals and the wider community.

Zoe Brush said she’s excited about the conference, “it is one of our last major assignments for our course and will feature work from the past session and incorporates ideas we have seen in previous placement opportunities.”

CSU students are encouraged to take part in the events, join in the conversation and hear the latest on topical health issues from final year students who are about to take their next step into the workforce.
