As part of the University Strategy 2022, Charles Sturt University is investing in three focus areas: our students, our communities and our internal capability.

What is the University Strategy?

The University Strategy is like a roadmap that the University will use to ensure we are continuing to achieve our ambitious and transformative agenda. The University Strategy sets out key actions the University will take between 2018 and 2022 to deliver outcomes, and has three focus areas: our students, our communities, and our internal capability.

What is happening as part of the Our Students strategy?

There are some big projects underway at CSU to ensure you receive a high quality, flexible learning experience that fits around your life and aspirations. We are focused on providing our graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and professional networks for a meaningful life and successful career.

Some of the key activities include:

  • Transforming the delivery of our online subjects to improve the student learning experience
  • Implementing a new student safety and wellbeing team to ensure a more inclusive and safe environment for our students
  • Centralising student communication to ensure you receive important information when you need it
  • 24/7 assistance for you via key services such as IT support
  • Refreshing and repositioning our brand to attract and retain students and be a leading provider of higher education in our communities

Is CSU changing its name and getting a new logo?

One part of this overall strategy is to review and refresh our identity, our communication and our voice as a University as we head into our 30th anniversary celebrations in July 2019. This includes investigating changing the name of the University. The preferred option is Sturt University and we are in the process of seeking feedback from students, staff, alumni and the community. We will continue to consult before final decisions are made.

This refresh is not simply about changing our name or a logo. It is about ensuring we articulate clearly who we are and what we stand for to our students and the wider community.

In the past the University was known by a number of different names, including the Bathurst Teacher’s College, the Wagga Agriculture College and the Mitchell College of Advanced Education.

No matter what we call ourselves or what our logo is, it won’t take away from our years of strength and resilience as the largest regional university in the country which will continue to serve the needs of our students, staff and communities and be “for the public good”.

How much is this costing the University?

Our University Strategy has a budget of $24 million allocated across all strategic initiatives, from 2018 to 2022, with a proportion of this dedicated to the brand refresh.

The Our Students Focus Area is strategically funded. We have business as usual funds that are and will continue to be allocated to student services.

How do I share my feedback?

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the University Strategy, including the brand refresh, you can email Deputy Vice-Chancellor Jenny Roberts.
