How CSU is building a community of respect

It has been 12 months since the release of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Change the course: National report on sexual assault and sexual harassment at Australian universities Survey.

The Survey provided greater insight into the nature, prevalence and reporting of sexual violence at universities, including Charles Sturt University (CSU).

What is CSU doing?

We have adopted all recommendations from the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Universities Australia 10 Point Plan. This has included developing resources, implementing training programs for staff and students, and establishing a dedicated hotline for students.

Over 2000 students have completed Consent Matters or the Playing Right program.

Over 800 staff have been trained in assisting students in distress including responding to disclosures of sexual violence and effective reporting.

What will CSU do?

We are already planning our expanded efforts in 2019 to ensure our students feel safe, survivors feel supported, and people are informed to respond and report.

If you experience or report sexual violence at CSU, you will be supported.

Know where to get support

If you have experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment and would like to report an incident or get support, you have a range of options:

  • Call 1800 961 991 for urgent counselling or to make a report. This number goes direct to a CSU student counsellor from 9am to 5pm, and diverts to the NSW Rape Crisis Centre after hours.
  • Make an appointment with a CSU student counsellor
  • Speak to a CSU staff member who will log the report on your behalf
  • Email the Ombudsman
  • Contact crisis services in your community

In an emergency situation, you should always contact 000 and campus security on 1800 931 633 or via CSU Safe.
