If you’ve been looking for a way to get more involved in uni life, here’s your chance.
All CSU’s campus-based Student Representative Committees (SRCs) and the Online Study SRC are looking for new members, and nominations are closing soon.
So, what’s involved in joining the SRC?
Dom Costello and Dylan Oliver from the Wagga Wagga SRC, known as Rivcoll, shared some insider tips in a Facebook Live session on CSUSocial last week.
“Things we do are events, so we run a Wednesday night event every week here at the Crow Bar,” Dom said.
“We also take opinions from the student body and make sure they’re heard by academics or other people higher up in the University.”
As well as standard bar nights, the Wagga Wagga SRC has recently hosted the Hoodoo Gurus and You Am I, and will welcome Grinspoon to the stage later this session.
Joining the SRC can also be a great way to develop other skills you can take into your careers, including communication, event organisation, time management, chairing meetings and being comfortable in interview situations.
“Since being on the SRC I’ve been a club president, a vice-president, I’m now a treasurer of a club, I’ve become an RA (residential adviser). It just opens so many doors and you get to meet so many people,” Dom said.
Dylan said while the time commitment for being on the SRC could be flexible.
“It depends how much you want to get involved,” he said.
“If you have one aspect that you really want to help out with you can put as much time into it as you possibly can. If you have something that’s not really your interest, you can kind of step back and let other members take the lead.
“You can work around your schedule.”
