Emily McKenny is paving the way for online students who are keen to get involved in university life.

Emily currently lives in Denmark, a small town in Western Australia, and has travelled more than 10,000km to compete in her second Eastern University Games, currently being held in Wollongong.

The Business student admitted there was a significant commitment required to attend the sporting event, but it would be worth it for the experience.

Emily is competing in women’s netball alongside students from CSU’s Bathurst, Orange and Wagga Wagga campuses.

She said while it can be challenging coming from an online study background, she’s passionate about meeting new people and integrating the social aspect with competitive sport.

“The love, atmosphere and community spirit that CSU stands for is why I love coming,” Emily said.

“There’s no other university that displays that as much as CSU.”

Emily is keen to spread the word and encourages other online students to take on as many opportunities as they can.

“Do it! Don’t even think about it, just do it. It’s an opportunity that you have to take by the horns and just do it,” she said.

Emily is heading into the final day of competition and said she would definitely try to attend again next year.
